Building Information Modelling (BIM) is sometimes mistaken for being solely used to produce drawings from 3D Models, but the capacity of BIM is greatly expansive.

BIM looks beyond the planning and design phase of the project, extending throughout the building life cycle processes including building design, cost management, construction management and facilities management.

The aim is to combine technology with new working practices to improve the quality of delivered project information through efficiency of communication within the design and construction process. Traditional workflows are replaced with all parties collaborating within a shared workspace.

BIM provides a single coordinated source of structured information to support all members of the project team. It provides a common platform for all information defining the building, together with its constituent elements and lifecycle activities. Peter Dann Consulting Engineers have embraced this process and use software at the forefront of Building Information Modelling technology, which is essential to the design process within a BIM environment.
