Emmanuel Church Site
The Emmanuel Church site consisted of the church, church hall and a vicarage dating from the mid - Victorian period.
The site was re-developed by Circle 33, demolishing the existing church hall, constructing a new residential block, which incorporated a new vicarage, also converting the old vicarage building into apartments.
The new building contained 21 single bedroom apartments over 3 storeys. The structure generally consisted of pre-cast concrete floors supported on load bearing masonry. It had piled foundations due to ground conditions and the presence of mature trees. The new residential block was connected to the old vicarage building with a glazed link. This link was designed to accommodate differential movements between the new piled building and the vicarage which had traditional foundations.
Refurbishment of the vicarage included partial underpinning to abate subsidence damage and conversion into 6 self-contained apartments, this included inserting a steel frame into the roof in order to utilise the attic spaces.
