Manor House, St Marys Manor - Beverley
The Manor House is a Grade II listed building adjacent to St Mary’s Manor Church, formerly a Chapel to the Minster, which was constructed circa 1120.
Peter Dann were appointed to assist with the refurbishment of the manor house into a number of self-contained dwelling units.
An extensive structural survey was undertaken to ascertain the strength of the existing structure and any major defects that existed. The building could not be shown to meet modern day British standards and a pragmatic approach was taken to ensure that no members were subject to loads greater than would have applied under its previous uses.
The repairs and strengthening were designed to be sympathetic to the original building both in terms of materials and appearance.
As part of the refurbishment repairs included the insertion of a raft foundation on a later extension to control settlements and to reduce differential movements between that and the main structure.
