The Birches, London
Peter Dann were the Structural Engineers for the Birches a new build luxury private residence undertaken by Fitzroy Developments. Following completion of the property it was featured in the London Evening Standard Homes & Property supplement.
The Birches is named after a clump of trees in the front garden and is located within an exclusive residential area between Richmond and Putney in South West London.
We were responsible for development of the structural design concept through to the detailed design of the foundations, superstructure and below ground drainage. The property comprises 520m² of luxury space with some internal ceiling heights in excess of 5m.
Load bearing masonry construction was adopted for the majority of the building, with some hot rolles steel to the large openings. The building façade comprises facing brickwork, cedar cladding and large angular glazed windows.
The angular pitch roof sections were formed with timber stressed skin construction. Structural steel beams were introduced within the roof in order to achieve the internal open plan areas and to provide support for the external glazing.
