Chaucer Street, London

Located in the heart of Nottingham, this modular project consists of a 6 storey, 300 bedroom, student accommodation building, and the Belgrave Suite, a 4 storey unit with 70 flats. Modular construction on a reinforced concrete podium was chosen for its speed of execution. The construction of the main building took 9 months from design to completion.

The modules were designed to produce a self-stable building capable of resisting horizontal wind loads. In addition, curved elevations have been built into corners of kitchen modules and a roof terrace is included in the Belgrave Suite.

A variety of cladding types have been used on the project. The main building uses brickwork and blockwork, forming a cavity wall, for the full height. A more radical solution has been chosen for the Belgrave Suite, where the modules come pre-clad with horizontal oak planks forming a rain screen, with the curved corners fully glazed.
