Oxford Street, London

A five storey high façade of a building fronting onto Oxford Street, London. A busy street with high volumes of traffic restricted the width of the structure. This was compounded by a requirement for pedestrians to be able to walk between the legs of the frames.

Cantilever lattice girders on portal frames were constructed in modules allowing for ease of erection.

Vaulted brick cellars under the pavement allowed for foundations and part of the counterweight system to be hidden from the public.  Additional counterweights at pavement level doubled as a barrier forming the pedestrian access between the frames.

The structure was modelled using our 3-D StruCAD software which then enabled us to produce full fabrication detail drawings for manufacture.  This resulted in a more efficient programme due to the reduction in the quantity of fully detailed engineers drawings required and an in house approval process.
