St Johns House Hospital, Norfolk

Peter Dann undertook the design of the main building structure, below ground drainage and civil engineering works for a new 32 bed medium secure residential and administration development within the grounds of the original manor house. The building comprises fair faced brickwork and cedar board cladding with a classic single terracotta pantile roof. Landscaped internal courtyards are provided within the development.

The building structure comprises timber roofs, first floor composite concrete plank floors supported on load-bearing blockwork walls and concrete strip foundations. Open-plan internal areas are formed with structural steel frames.

Drainage design was based on principles of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). Stormwater from building roofs is drained into the ground via lightweight recycled PVC honeycombed modular soakaway units. Wastewater is drained via a new pumping station into an existing on-site sewage treatment plant.
