United Riceland, India

Peter Dann were commissioned to design a new rice mill on a green field site near Delhi in India, providing storage on site for 100,000 tons of rice in circular silos, each of up to 5000 tons capacity. There are a variety of buildings on the site the main mill building (48 x 80m), intake house, grading house, parboiling facility, packing-house, warehouse and numerous ancillary buildings.

The buildings are to be predominantly constructed of reinforced concrete with rendered block walls as this produces a clean internal environment. The plant is supported on structural steelwork sourced from India and the UK. The design and detailing of the steel frame had to reflect their on site fabrication facilities and ensure that the production machinery which is being sourced world wide fits precisely. To this end, we adapted our solid modelling programme to work in a combination of Indian and UK steel sections.

With this program we generated a virtual reality fly through to ensure the structure and plant were clash free. On the mill building alone over 7,000 drawings were produced for items ranging from plates to general arrangement drawings.
