Food Production Facility, Northern Europe
This project involved an extension to a pet food production facility and was divided into two distinct parts, a semi-moist plant and a process and packing facility.
The semi-moist plant which contained extruders, bunded storage tanks and bins was built over an existing production area and boiler house which had to remain in operation and this necessitated long span composite floors on a steel framework supported on pile foundations.
The existing 40m span packing warehouse was extended vertically 10m over half its width to form the mixing and packing facility. The stability of the packing warehouse building during the erection procedure was critical due to it supporting a bridge on sliding bearings over the access road.
Within the packing warehouse was a mezzanine floor supporting packing lines with racking below served by forklift trucks. The roof had to remain virtually intact until the mixing tower was clad so that the plant could remain in continuous production
