Peter Dann were appointed to assist in a scheme which involved the provision of an increased café area at ground floor level, and a new IT lounge at first floor level.
Extensive intrusive investigation works were needed to establish the capacity of the existing structure, from which the proposed extension was to take support. Strengthening works were undertaken to the existing flat roof areas which were to be converted into the IT lounge.
The external façade was constructed with full height frameless glazing fronting onto a courtyard area.
A foundation system involving piles and a suspended reinforced ground floor slab was designed to minimise the risk of damage to a tree which had a preservation order within the courtyard.
