Wood Green Animal Shelter, Godmanchester
Peter Dann were commissioned to assist in the design of a new reception building, welfare facilities and two kennel blocks in the expansion of the Wood Green Animal facility, Godmanchester.
The kennel blocks were configured to allow public viewing of the animals when they are awake and active and a private area where the animals could sleep; accessible only by Wood Green staff.
The structures were constructed of block and timber frames. The reception and welfare buildings had trench fill foundations but a raft foundation was used for the kennel blocks.
The drainage had to be carefully planned as each kennel had a bespoke stainless steel drainage system. Careful consideration had to be given to potential contaminated areas being drained to the foul sewers to comply with the Environmental Agency requirements.
