Marriott Hotel – Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh
This new Marriott hotel is complete on the Heriot-Watt University campus in Edinburgh. The hotel comprises 160 bedrooms with additional multi-purpose rooms in the top storey and meeting spaces, dining and lounge areas within the ground floor. It is part of the new National Performance Centre for Sport located on the campus which includes new state of the art sports facilities which will be used by the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Rugby Union when staying on site.
Peter Dann have designed all of the substructure and superstructure for the building including mass concrete foundations, a steel frame ground floor podium structure with mezzanine level and the modular bedrooms. The entire building has been modelled in Revit allowing a fully coordinated building model to be created including structural, architectural and servicing information. As for previous projects carried out, the modules were constructed off-site ensuring high standards of finishes and minimal waste, then craned into position on top of the podium structure.
