Alconbury Weald Club
Located in Alconbury near Huntingdon, this three-storey community space accommodates a meeting hall, gym, a public café and the offices of Urban & Civic.
The building, with its generous volumes and exposed finishes, sits beneath two exaggerated roof canopies. The main structure is cross-laminated timber (using 4.5 to 6m wide structural bays) while the vertical order of curtain wall glazing and dark-stained timber cladding echo the neighbouring Alconbury Incubator building. The timber cladding runs vertically in a slip-and-miss arrangement akin to a Scandinavian summer house.
The wood is Australian Spruce provided by Eurban. We are pleased to announce that the Alconbury Weald Club was shortlisted for the Wood Awards 2016.
